James Holdaway arrived in Nelson in 1842. He was only 17 years old when, in 1853, he began working as a bullock driver in Marlborough. In 1864, Holdaway purchased land in Dillons Point on the lower Wairau Plains and named it Lowlands. His descendants now grow Sauvignon Blanc grapes on this land.
This wine has layers of powerful flavours, with intense blackcurrant, and passionfruit, complemented with hints of ripe lime, nettles and boxwood.
The palate has a refreshing but elegant acidity, with full and rich palate from concentrated fruit weight and an appealing salty minerality and chalkiness that leads through to a long finish.
